Paintless
Dent Repair Training
Before you
decide |
Within the industry there are many
places to learn paintless dent repair. Among them you will find
large corporations/franchises which offer you the world in exchange
for your soul. Once you complete their course, they put you to work,
and pay you a small pittance for your labor. Do your homework, and
you will find that they make you sign a no compete contract. A large
amount of independent technicians in the field started out this way,
and had to fight these franchises in court to break free of them,
and often move to another state to practice their trade. They also
had to re train and get a new certificate. It amazes me how many
people I meet across the country who started out with these
companies and fought their way free, though some people are content
to plod along working for them.
You will also find what insiders call “Training Mills.” These are
most often tool companies which sell you pretty “Packages.” They
offer air fare, hotel, ground transportation, and attractive
discounted tool sets. Most of these tools you may never need or use,
but they are in the business of selling tools. Along with all this
they offer “Training.” Most often, it will be a crash course,
probably in a classroom full of students. Individual attention is
rare, and you can find many horror stories online of people who
bought these packages, were fed a lot of promise and sunshine, and
went home feeling good about themselves until the payments came in
on the credit card, and they couldn’t fix a dent. You can find their
tools on Ebay every day. They also show you some fuzzy math and
convince you that if you do X amount of dings for X amount of
dollars a day, you will be making more money than you can spend.
This simply is not true.
Paintless dent repair is a difficult skill between art and science,
and takes patience, skill, eye hand coordination, a desire to
succeed, and a business sense. It helps if you enjoy people as well.
Still want the challenge? But wait, there’s more. These days, the
market is over saturated with technicians. Many poorly trained and
others who escaped from the corporations and franchises, as well as
many who like my self, paid their own way and trained with the best
technicians across the country. These are few and far between. There
are also technicians who are masters at their niche, but have no
clue in other aspects of the business. Some people think that they
can sell shoddy workmanship by undercutting prices. People who try
this find after a time their reputation gets around, and they too
sell their tools on Ebay. This is the playing field you will be
entering. If it sounds like I’m trying to discourage you from
entering the industry, I’m not. It can be extremely rewarding for
anyone who wants to do the work. I feel extremely blessed to have
mastered this skill, and sometimes earn in a day what some people
make in a week. You will only get out of it what you put in. |

What to Expect |
What I offer is a five day beginner course. The curriculum is
designed to give the student a close oversight of the PDR industry,
its aspects and skills required for each. You will be introduced to
different tool types, several light sources, theory, different
fields within the industry, and learn which skills apply
specifically to each. At the end of day five, you will fix a basic
dent, not be encouraged to practice until you learn on your own at
home. That’s not to say you can jump right into business. You will
still need to practice and decide how far you want to take your
skill level. I will help you decide which tools you will want to buy
to get your self started. The money I will save you by not letting
you fall into the tool trap will pay for much of the course. You
will leave
with a sense of accomplishment, a new skill, and a certificate of
completion. You will also have a workbook of notes to fall back on
and online and phone support if you need it. |

Advanced Training |
|
I also offer advanced training on any aspect of pdr you want to
learn. Whether you want to learn how to use a new light source,
learn large dent repair, or simply can’t make it work after training
elsewhere. If you have a specific problem area I’ll help you find
the solution. |
